Our Purpose and Constitution

PURPOSE:   The purpose of this organization is to promote fellowship among retired teachers of Perry County; to sponsor and support such legislation in Ohio as will contribute to the comfort and welfare of the  retired teachers of the state; to assist teachers in the county with pre-retirement planning; and to assist, when feasible, in promoting the welfare of the teaching profession.


ARTICLE 1 --  MEETING
     The regular meeting of the organization shall be held on the fourth Tuesday of February, April, June, August, and October.  The December meeting will be held on the second Tuesday of the month.  Special meetings shall be called at the will of the president.

ARTICLE 2 -- QUORUM
     At all meetings, the quorum must consist of an attendance of at least one-third of the total membership, together with a majority of the currently elected officers or their substitutes.

ARTICLE 3 -- ELECTIONS
     The Nominating Committee shall present a slate of officers to the group for election at the October meeting.  The term of office shall be two years.  Only full members have the right to vote and to hold office.  The president-elect shall automatically become president; the slate of officers would include president-elect (vice-president), a secretary, and a treasurer.  They shall be installed at the December meeting.  In case of a vacancy during a member's term in office, the Nominating Committee will nominate a person to be elected at the next scheduled meeting of PCRTA.  The newly elected person will complete the term.

ARTICLE 4 -- PRESIDENT
     The following are duties of the president
A.  To preside at all meetings
B.  To execute the desires of the majority of the members
C.  To appoint regular committees and to assist in their functions
D.  To decide questions of parliamentary procedure
E.  To approve by signature minutes of the meeting, accounts payable and checks in payment
F.  To handle petty cash fund for small miscellaneous expenses.

ARTICLE 5 -- PRESIDENT-ELECT
     It shall be the duty of the president-elect (vice president) to
A.  Assist the president in the performance of the duties heretofore outlined
B.  Be responsible for all the president's duties in case of the president's absence or disability
C.  Be in charge of program booklet and preside at Program Committee meetings
D.  Automatically become president for the next term.

ARTICLE 6 -- SECRETARY
    It shall be the duty of the secretary to
A.  Keep an accurate record of the prodeedings of regular and executive board meetings
B.  Have minutes published in newsletter so they may be approved at the following meeting
C.  Read and respond to correspondence received by the group.

ARTICLE 7 -- TREASURER
   It shall be the duty of the treasurer to
A.  Receive all money belonging to the organization
B.  Disburse such money as authorized by the organization
C. Collect meal fees at each meeting and pay person in charge at meeting place.

ARTICLE 8 -- MEMBERSHIP
   Full membership in this organization consists of retired teachers who have served in Perry County and retired teachers presently living in or near Perry County.  Associate membership consists of other persons favorably interested in public education and in retired teachers' problems and well-being.

ARTICLE 9 -- DUES
   The dues of the local organization shall be $6.00 per member per year.  Full members are required to be members in the OHIO RETIRED TEACHERS ASSOCIATION and pay twenty dollars annually (with exception of those holding life memberships.)  Associate membership dues: $3.00.

ARTICLE 10  -- STANDING COMMITTEE CHAIRPERSON
  Chairpersons of standing commitee shall serve a two-year term coinciding with term of elected officers.

ARTICLE 11 -- EXECUTIVE BOARD
   The current officers and immediate past president will be members of the Executive Board.  Meeting will be rescheduled by the President.
